Working Together to Prevent Abuse

Public Health Nurses

Provide assessment, information, health education, support and referrals through pregnancy and once the infant is born.

Outreach Coordinators

Provide ongoing support, including referrals to community agencies, and generally ensure preparedness for baby’s arrival.

Police Constable

Provides education and support through the legal process if needed, including navigating the Criminal Justice System, warrants, and court dates.

Early Intervention & Prevention

POST clients are often experiencing complex issues and multi-layered lifestyle challenges that inhibit their ability to access supports.

These issues include:

  • Domestic Violence
  • Homelessness
  • Problematic Substance Use
  • Poverty
  • Social Isolation
  • Mental Health Concerns

What does the POST team do?

POST is a preventative, integrated and harm reduction program that reaches out and builds relationships with vulnerable pregnant persons in the city of Calgary.

The goal of the Prenatal Outreach Support Team (POST) is to empower the clients to access supports that reduce risks to their pregnancy and ensure the health and safety of the newborn. The POST program will meet the client where they are at, support them through all situations and will never give up.

What Is The Acceptance Criteria?

ALL partners attend triage and bring information to the team to determine acceptance of new clients. The criteria includes:

  • Pregnant
  • Lives within the City of Calgary
  • Social Isolation
  • Criminal Activity
  • Poverty
  • Mental Health
  • Problematic Substance Use
  • Domestic Violence
  • Cognitive Concerns
  • Lack of Prenatal Care
  • Not accessing resources
